|Our Problem
According to Stanfords Children’s health, School-age children (ages 6 to 12) need healthy foods and nutritious snacks. They have a steady but slow rate of growth and usually eat 4 to 5 times a day (with snacks). Many food habits, likes, and dislikes are set during this time. Family, friends, and the media (chiefly TV) affect their food choices and eating habits. |
How It Affects Our Community
When kids are hungry, they cannot focus as well as they could. They could begin having behavioral issues that could soon lead to lower cognitive and social emotional skills. The two main issues that can happen when not having enough food is hunger, and food insecurity. Hunger, is when a student or a kid is extremely hungry which affects the way they work and focus. Food insecurity is when you worry whether or not you will have food at home, which takes your mind off of schools work and learning, but more on if they will have food and if they will be hungry.
